ブリティッシュスタイルの起源は、200年ほど前、スーツ発祥地の英国で生まれたといわれています。もともとは王侯貴族の正装だったのが徐々に庶民の間にも広まっていったのだとか。スーツ発祥の地、英国のブリティッシュスタイルはまさしくスーツの本来の姿ということができるでしょう。
ブリティッシュスタイルの最もたる特徴は、必然から生まれたディティールと男らしさを示したシルエットです。
ブリティッシュスタイルは控えめであることを美徳とする考えで、華美な服装を好まない。英国紳士の精神である新しいスーツを新しく見せないことや、さりげなくネクタイと裏地がコーディネイトされていたり袖口を本水牛釦の本切羽にされていることなどがそれである。

1、ブリティッシュスーツの特徴の一つが肩パッド。一見動きにくそうだが、アームホールが狭められ、また高い位置にあるので腕の可動域が広い。
２、シェイプされたウエストは、立体的なボディラインを演出し、風格のある「イングリッシュドレープ」と呼ばれるシルエットを生み出す。
３、体の外側に向いて下がる、斜め切込みの腰ポケットを「スラントポケット｣という。英国でポピュラーな乗馬服の名残と言われている。
４、小銭(チェンジ)を入れるために「チェンジポケット」が付いているのも、ブリティッシュスーツの特徴。これが斜めについているとよりクラシックになる。
5、ドレスシャツもタイトに着こなすことでより全体の調和がとれるでしょう。
